On Father’s Day, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I threw out a couple of ideas to the kids, one of which was to head to the dog beach. Dash (my son) asked if we could stop at Subway and pick up lunch. Well, that sounded down right perfect. So off to the Huntington Beach dog beach we went!
We only took Major. Raven is generally a very good dog, but the scene at the dog beach is chaotic at best, and Major is rock solid with his focus and attention.
The beach was perfect. The weather was amazing, both kids had a blast, and Major got to swim and fetch all afternoon.
A lab in the water is a beautiful thing. Major is a strong swimmer, and even got to do a little body surfing.
The day was perfect, but perhaps my absolute favorite moment was when my daughter came running up, super excited, to show me that she got to be unhooked from her pump for 2 hours. Best Fathers Day gift ever, is letting her just be a kid. Not a type 1 kid. Just a kid. Even if it was only for a couple of hours
For those wondering why, the beach tends to be a blood sugar sucking vacuum. She doesn’t need insulin at the beach, and with all the sand and salt water, we’d just as soon disconnect her and protect her pump. We wind up having to give her Gatorade and snacks just to keep her in range. It’s great to be able to do that, like I said, even if only for a little while.
All in all, we had a fantastic day. Both kids played together for hours without a single complaint!
And I even got an idea for a new TV Show dynamic duo, and everytime I see these 2 pictures, I can here a theme song playing 🙂
I had an amazing Father’s Day. We came home and I bathed the labs while my wife bathed the kids, then we BBQ’d and had family movie night on the couch watching “Oz the Great and Powerful”. It was perfect.

I am always amazed with your children and family. I can tell how close you all are and it’s so therapeutic for me. I didn’t have a close family growing up but I am living vicariously through yours! Thank you for sharing.
The “Wise” clan strikes again!! LOVE that you had such an amazing day and that Stella got to be a “normal” kid!!! Those few hours of being “disconnected” are like pure freedom!! The unrestrained joy on Dash and Stella’s faces–Major’s, too–is priceless!!
